History of the Masters
The Open Championship (British Open), is the third golf major of the season and the oldest of the four majors.
The first Open was played on October 17, 1860 and won by Willie Park Sr. of Scotland.
The first 29 Open winners were from Scotland until John Ball (England) won in 1890.
In 1921 Jock Hutchinson became the first American to win.
British Open Winners get an automatic bid to play in the Masters, U.S. Open and the PGA Championship the next 5 years.
